Gain and Barnes lay solid foundation in Cup victory!
Whitstable U15's moved into the Semi-Final of the Cup after a 9 run victory over a plucky Elham Valley side.
Put into bat, the new opening partnership of Rob Gain and rising star Bartholomew Johnson put on 66 runs in little time, with excellent running and quality shots. Gain retired on 40, but alas Johnson was out soon after for an impressive 22. Ben Mills and Jonty Barnes were also enjoying themselves at the crease, until Mills was very unlucky to be run out after the ball hit the bowlers foot from a Barnes drive, directing it onto the stumps. So with Mills gone for 20, Barnes went on to retire at 40, and the home team posted their best score of the season 144-5.
In reply Barnes took an early wicket and Johnson was involved in a run out, but Elham recovered and at 93-2 looked likely winners.
Up step Joe Clements. The diminutive bowler destroyed any Elham hopes with a spell of 4 wickets in 7 balls, with one bowled and catches from Mills, Barnes and Joe Vandepeer.
Clements finished with 4-21. Archie Tennant who's eye catching fielding earned him a run out, while Gain behind the stumps took a stumping of Barnes, leaving Elham at 135-9 and 9 runs short.
